The reverse shows Britannia seated, facing right. She wears a helmet and her left hand holds a trident while her right rests on a shield bearing the heraldic crosses of members of the United Kingdom. There is a ship to the right and a lighthouse to her right.
The terms one and penny are in raised relief on reverse while the date on the obverse, 1875 lies below the emblem.
