The reverse shows Britannia seated, facing right. She wears a helmet and her left hand holds a trident while her right rests on a shield bearing the heraldic crosses of members of the United Kingdom. The terms one and penny are in raised relief on reverse while the date on the obverse, 1916 lies below the emblem.
