About this item

A publication produced for the first assembly of Dáil Éireann held on the 21st January, 1919. The booklet contains a record of the day’s proceedings, the roll of members, standing orders and a Declaration of Independence and message to the Free Nations of the World. The text is primarily in Irish throughout. Some parts are translated into both english and french.

This first meeting was held in the Round Room of the Mansion House and began at 3.30pm lasting approximately 2 hours.

For County Tipperary members listed include Seosamh Mac Dhonnachahdha (Joseph MacDonagh), brother of Thomas. Joseph, or Joe as he was known to his family, was elected as Sinn Féin MP for Tipperary North constituency at the 1918 General Election. However, MacDonagh was not present at this first meeting as he was in prison in Reading Jail at the time of his election. He was released and attended the second session held on 10th April, 1919.
