About this item

Éamonn Ceannt (21 September 1881 – 8 May 1916), born Edward Thomas Kent. Ceannt was a member of the Military Committee of the Irish Republican Brotherhood and played a prominent role in the organisation of the 1916 Easter Rising. He was one of seven signatories of the Irish Proclamation. He faced arrest in the aftermath of the Easter Rising and was sentenced to be shot. He was executed by firing squad on 8 May 1916.
