This book includes a selection of poems of Thomas Campion (1567-1620). Campion was an English composer, poet and physician born in London and educated at Cambridge. Having studied law in Gray’s Inn he has composed over one hundred songs on lute, masques for dancing and published a technical treatise on music.

In his preface MacDonagh writes “This book was written and presented by me in 1911 as a thesis for the degree of Master of Arts at University college, Dublin.”. Published in Dublin by The Talbot Press in 1913.
