About this item

An Irish 9p stamp commemorating the 50th anniversary of the death of Tomás MacCurtain (1884-1920). The stamp was designed by Peter Wildbur, based on a portrait and printed using the photogravure technique.

MacCurtain was Irish Patriot, Sinn Féin politician commander in the Irish Volunteers who was Lord Mayor of Cork when he was killed by the RIC (Royal Irish Constabulary on March 20th 1920.
