About this item

A decorative letter opener created from brass and bullets and inscribed ‘Sinn Fein Rising 1916’ and made in the Welsh Prisoner of War Camp, Frongoch. Frongoch was an internment camp for German World War 1 prisoners of war but was used for many of those arrested in the aftermath of the Irish 1916 Easter Rising. Trench Art was made from a variety of materials, often spare metal or bullet casings either in the Trenches or in Prisoner of War Camps.
