Alan Boyson was a British ceramicist, sculptor and public artist. My mother bought this vase directly from the artist in London in 1961 and passed it on to me in 2020. I’ve always liked its mid-century modernist style, the white dove motif was popular in the post-WW2 period as a symbol of the Peace Movement. Boyson is best known for his outdoor public art works. His work was underappreciated until recently, when community efforts saved significant public art works from demolition. As a child of the 1950s I connect with the imagery and style of this piece.
