Story about this item

My father James (Jim) Costello, (1901-1968), won this medal in the Farriery Craftsmanship Competition in the Royal Dublin Society (RDS) in 1935 and it means a lot to me.

These competitions were created by Department of Education in order to recognise and encourage high standards, and to raise awareness amongst horse owners about the importance of good farriery.

A farrier is a specialist in equine hoof care, and I’m very proud that my father, grandfather and great grandfather were all farriers.
