Culture Night 2023 as part of Thomas MacDonagh Hedge School

Thomas MacDonagh Museum is hosting an informal spoken word Poetry Slam from 7-10pm on Culture Night 2023 as part of the Thomas MacDonagh Hedge School, 20-24 September.

Join us for spoken word readings by the community and guests of poems by Thomas MacDonagh and others.

We are honoured to welcome special guest Stephen Sexton, Belfast-based author to read his new Poetry as Commemoration Commission ‘The Head of a Man’.

This event is free, and pre-booking is recommended to help us plan a safe and successful event.

Stephen Sexton is the author of two books of poems: If All the World and Love Were Young (2019), winner of the Forward Prize for Best First Collection, and Cheryl’s Destinies (2021). In 2020, he was awarded the E.M. Forster Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature.He teaches at the Seamus Heaney Centre, Queen’s University, Belfast.

 

Thomas MacDonagh Museum has received funding for Culture Night 2023 from Tipperary County Council and the Arts Council of Ireland

Thomas MacDonagh Museum has also received funding for Culture Night from Poetry as Commemoration, an initiative of the Irish Poetry Reading Archive at UCD, supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, under the Decade of Centenaries 2012-2023 programme.
