Print Exhibition

The Museum is delighted to  host an exhibition of 32 contemporary prints by Irish Artists.

This collection is on loan from Tipperary County Council.

The exhibition includes a fascinating collection of works by well-known Irish print makers including Alice Hanratty, Des MacMahon and David Lilburn as well as prints by Tipperary artists Carol Kennedy and Suzannah O’Reilly.

To coincide with the exhibition, a printmaking workshop will be offered free of charge to adults (and young people over the age of 16) in the Museum on Tuesday 8th July at 11am with artist and printmaker Suzannah O’Reilly.

In a 90-minute session, Suzannah will introduce participants to dry point printmaking with chine colle and mono print. Partipants at the workshop will scratch/etch an image onto an acetate sheet (which will be made available in advance of the workshop). When the image is on the acetate etching ink will be applied, rubbed in and the excess removed. The ink will remain in the lines etched into the sheet. Dampened paper is then placed on top and the plate is rolled through the press where the image will transfer onto the paper. This then can be repeated multiple times and variations can be created by adding colour tissue paper.

Spaces at the workshop are limited. For booking phone (0505) 42785 or email info@macdonaghmuseum.ie

The print exhibition will be on display in the Thomas MacDonagh Museum from 4 to 31 July.
