We are the only Museum in Ireland dedicated to Thomas MacDonagh, the Irish patriot, poet and teacher. He is best known as one of the leaders of the Easter Rising of 1916 and one of seven signatories of the Proclamation of the Provisional Government, one of the most significant events in Irish history.

The Museum is housed in the former MacDonagh family home on Main Street Cloughjordan. The family home has been transformed into a museum space that also includes local heritage, shop, research facility and art gallery.

The material within the collection is rare and valuable to the story of the Gaelic Revival. It explains the Gaelic Revival influence leading to the 1916 Rising and the formative years of the Irish State – spanning the period 1840-1940.

Facilities & Access
Our shop in reception is where you can purchase souvenirs and gifts as a memory of your visit and learn more from a variety of books.
A wheelchair accessible toilet is located on the ground floor.
Cloughjordan village has a number of shops, cafes and takeaways for catering.
Our volunteers will assist you to find other exciting things to do in Cloughjordan and the surrounding area.
All areas of the ground floor, the Museum, heritage exhibitions and galleries are fully accessible. The upstairs room has limited accessibility.
cOVID POLICY

- The Museum maintains and regularly reviews its Covid Policy in line with National Guidelines.
- We recently installed a Hepa Filter to improve air quality and now offer tap-and-donate for contactless purchases and donations.
